Has anyone replaced PRS 'vintage' or Les Paul 'Gibson Deluxe' tuners with Gotoh SD90MG's?

What's Hot
I'd like to upgrade the PRS SC245 I've bought to have locking tuners, I'm told these are a direct replacement (same for Les Paul's): http://www.thomann.de/gb/gotoh_sd90mg_gold.htm?sid=07273d7ef675905a92e4a4d2ef7f9738

Anyone have any first hand experience of doing so?

Dave.

  • "Magnum" must be a synonym for "don't" that I'm not aware of.

I have used them a couple of times.   they are nice tuners, but you do run the risk of loosing the top of the tuner if you are not careful

I also find they don't lock perfectly with string tension alone, stretching them in helps, but its best to manually tighten them slightly, and always keep a coin that fits in the case for loosenign them again

so a bit of a pita, but the only really option if you want something that looks traditional but still locks

  • You are much better off, in my opinion, keeping the existing tuners and using the lock-down stringing technique as shown here:
