Small format flanger

Hi Guys,

What would you say is the best for the above? Mooer Elec Lady is great but I have one and would like a contrast, was aware of the TC Vortex mini, any experiences with this? Are there any other good options?

if you can step up to MXR-size then the Microflanger is awesome.

+1 for the MXR Micro Flanger.

I tried the TC one but all the toneprints I messed with sounded really digital and quite harsh (of course I didn't get to try all of them, but nothing quite sounded right). The MXR is great.

Not tired the Mooer Elec Lady but I did used to like the EHX Electric Mistress it's sort of based on (which gives a lovelychorus/flanger mix)

EHX do do the Neo Mistress (which is most likely actually what the Elec Lady is based on of course) as well so check out demos of that.

    Micro Flanger is ace.

  • My flanger is a BYOC kit one. It's a little bigger than the standard MXR size, which makes it considerably bigger than those dinky Mooers, but still considerably smaller than a regular big-box EH Electric Mistress.

It was a fun electronics project. Now it makes all sorts of fun swooshy noises, and if you turn up the regeneration all the way it self oscillates, which is always cool.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

It's a brilliant Flanger, best (IE most suited to me) flanger around.

Covers all the bases a decent "rock/metal" flanger would.

May not be so good for different styles (but I can't accurately comment on them)

  • I'll see if I can squeeze it into the space I have on the board!

    You should. They're ace.

If you can't, make the space available bigger.

Silly as it sounds, the Boss BF2 takes some beating....

I very much doubt the op what a silly sounding flanger ;-)

  • I do like the Boss but I'm after something to go pre drive that will be nicely organic and rich. I remember the Boss being a bit more metallic and hollow sounding when I owned one. Its also too big to fit!

What type of flanger tones are you after? The micro flanger I had sounded really nice indeed, but it didn't really do the van halen unchained thing, either.

  • I'm not after doing a Van Halen thing, more of a bit of nice movement to enhance a lead sound or sweeten a clean sound - a little bit like Gilmour I guess.

EHX are announcing a new deluxe electric mistress for NAMM.

Really? I didn't really like the one I had, not easy to dial in a good sound - too many variables

No worries, I'm guessing the micro flanger might do that. Then again, one of the EHXs (which I haven't tried) might do it better...
