Making silly mistakes

What's Hot

At rehearsals last night I was fine (after my hands warmed up...bloody freezing) played all our tunes, of which I've written 90% of my parts. But one section of a song I just couldn't get one riff to sound right, it's not a difficult piece to play, I wrote it and have played it a million times-at home, rehearsals and have gigged it. It's the only bit I screwed up all evening, no biggie just not the right timing exactly....Why would that happen, or is it just one of those things? Anyone else experience it?

Yeah, I put it down to over familiarity, sometimes you play something so much that it goes on auto pilot, but then for no reason at all that auto pilot breaks and you screw up - then it's hard to remember how the damn thing really goes as subtle change takes place over time....

Yeah, sometimes the fingers just 'forget' even half way through a tune.

We're only human after all. :)

I blame it on the green pick @jd0272 haha, I did get one, but too stiff for me for some songs-I liked it for others though...will keep experimenting

I went to join in with a sound-effect type part, just a low rumble in D for an evil character and got no sound. Checked volume, leads, switch etc and all was fine.

Looked down - tuner was still on. At least I know it was a D I was playing... :D

I recon, rightly or wrongly, that I only own songs after I've gigged them a few times - something to do with some internal confidence thing

mistakes happen. I usually find if I am having to think about what I need to do next that is when I will fuck it all up.
It happens, dont let it get to you
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Nah I'm not beating myself up about it, I make mistakes all the time! Just wondering why that one in particular-it probably is overfamiliarity, I'll try and unlearn it!
