sounds a bit ungrateful, but what's the easiest way to remove a Harley Benton logo, short of scribbling over it with a black sharpie pen?

    Colour me tentative .....

Stripping the finish concerns me - as I have a cunning Wudtone plan, but it doesn't play well with stripped finishes I hear - any experiences ?

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

Wudtone works best - in my experience - with completely untreated wood.

You'd have to strip every last trace of the previous finish off, included that which has seeped into the grain of the wood, to get the Wudtone to take properly.  You might find something like a stained veneering would work more easily.

It's what I thought - grain filler is your enemy ...  will have to mull this over some more .....

If either of you do, I have one kicking around that I'm selling. It's still in the classifieds somewhere. Won't post the link here as don't want to hijack the thread too much.

@cbilly22 I may take you up on that, but it depends what Thomann can do for us.

If they do choose to support this I will gladly spend an extra couple of quid with them

    Hmmnnn ....... tempted.

I couldn't do it if the deadline is too short for me though, takes me a while to get going on stuff and find the time.

Briwax is a great finish, I stripped and waxed my Tele in the dark oak finish with fantastic results, about £12 a tin will do about 10 guitars :)

I'm not kidding, is it easy to paint over a logo like this?

I'm not sure you'd get a very seamless transition... possibly veneering the headstock, depending on the model? Or sand and refinish, I guess.

  • There are also those 'guitar wrap' vinyl transfer things... never used one or even seen one in person, but it might be a viable option? A budget way to cover up your budget brand!

Its only a vinyl sticker under laquer isn't it?

Surely sandpaper will obliterate it and the refinish the headstock. That's what i had planned to do to mine.

  • I just mean a patch refinish won't be very seamless- hence my first comment :) But yeah, as far as I know it is a vinyl sticker under lacquer.

Sorry, misunderstood after a massive day at work.

Yes i agree, a patch would be difficult. I think it will require a full headstock refinish to get rid or change it.
