Flat top means the pickups and bridge aren'tquite where your eye expects them to be relative to everything else.

Wrong neck joint position - they've put it at the 16th fret like the ES135, and single-cut semis need it at the 14th. This makes all the hardware too far forward on the body, in particular the gap between the tailpiece and the bridge is too big.

And it looks like it has a flat top, like the 335 ones did - but because you're expecting it to be arched, it actually looks like it's dished instead.

    Horrible.

Not really a fan of that.

Doesn't look right. Nor did the original midtown, but in a kinda utilitarian way it worked. This just doesn't look right full stop.

  • It looks like everything is too far up the body. Not to mention the weird 23.5" scale.

  • I'm a big fan of the custom but that's a big no from me.

I don't mind the old Midtown, but this one looks like the bridge is too far from the tailpiece.

Looks several kinds of wrong doesn't it?
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

It does look kind of stretched...

I don't hate it but if I wanted a single cut semi it wouldn't be on my list, whereas the original midtown was on my list of guitars to try if I could ever justify another semi.

It does look squished up but there are far worse guitars out there.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

  • Can't wait till, in 50 years time, these are the best guitars in the world but everyone hated the looks at the time... :p

But seriously, how did they get the design so wrong? I could design better, and I'm a twat.

The Byrdland, like most classic Gibsons has a design perfection about it; a really harmonious whole.

This, like many modern Gibsons misses it by a considerable margin....

    Not for me!

I like it! But then it's got the word Byrdland in it. Budget Ted! :)

^ I saw this a day or two ago and I like it too.

Dunno about the 23.5" scale, though. Also it's about £300 more than the regular midtown on thomann, which sucks.

    I bet it sounds fantastic.
Probably does, but you should know by now that how it looks is far more important.

Don't know, but it looks like it melted in the middle.
