Overpowering low E

The low E on my LP studio, at least on the rythmn setting is totally overpowering, even with all the treble I can find. A plucked note will decay at less than half the rate of the high E and it is really quite boomy.. On the lead setting it isn't so bad but it is still pretty loud and strong. The strings are .009 - .046 and I'm wondering if a change of bottom string/s would even things up a bit, say going for a .042 instead. I would be grateful for the board's wisdom on this as it is a bit of a pain. Ta.

  • Try dropping the pickup height on the base side.

I had a similar issue with a LP custom many moons ago and it was that the nut wasn't cut properly. Does the issue exist with fretted notes?

Try lowering the pole pieces under the bottom E.
