Guitar playing ... what gets in the way?

Err well mostly it's me spending what little free time I do have obsessing over & pontificating about & tinkering with guitars rather than playing them.

I suspect that my ability & technique is currently sooo poor that it isn't impaired by the vagaries of whatever guitar I pick up

The Strat volume knob as previously noted (most PRSs have the same issue.)

I also don't like the raised edge on vintage Tele bridges, or saddle adjustment screws that stick up too much and dig into my hand when palm muting.

Agreed. The screws on my Strat do my nut in, and the volume knob too.

Large heels (both on the guitar and the really distracting ones girls wear) also drive me insane.

other than that, laziness - though I'm hoping that as I've had a near miss in regard to my continuing playing opportunities I'll make a bit more effort to practice and play once all the strapping's off and the stitches are out

I don't whether I'm glad it's not just me or worried that, because it's not just me, it might be something I've caught and can't get rid of.

This. Very, very this. I suspect if I had one guitar, only ever bought a tuition book or DVD after finishing the current one, and actually organised myself to turn up to local jam nights, I'd be a far better player.
