New Wave/Punk Musicians who were serious players

What's Hot

Just musing- a lot of the punk/New Wave era was about not being able to play, supposedly. Yet some amazing musicans came out of it.

The Police for one- 3 virtuosoes.

The Stranglers- JJ is one of the truly great bassists, Jet and Greenfield superb players.

Elliot Easton- one of the greats of picking...

Who else?

SLF drummers Brian Faloon and Jim Reilly
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Steve Jones wrote some magnificent riffs. I don't know if that makes him a serious player or not but he obviously knew his way round a guitar.

So I was just posting about Polr Thompson, a stunning guitarist....amazing...

I knew he'd fallen out hugely with the Cure and flogged everything...now it appears he's about to have a sex change!

    Porl is now Pearl Thompson.
When he sold his entire Cure gear I was torn between bidding on the Cornish board or the latex clothing ensemble.

some great thought-provoking lyrics, too...that was perhaps the most important thing about it...though i did used to appreciate being kept informed of where Supertramp were having their Breakfast or whatever...but Strummer, Weller, Costello and many more gave me something I'll always appreciate
