    John Perry - the Only Ones. Another Girl is still one of my fave songs ever.
    That's my favourite guitar intro to any song, ever - and supposedly was a first-take played off the cuff… either that or the solo was and he did the intro afterwards, I can't remember. The solo isn't quite as good, you can tell he's winging it from about 3/4 of the way through and *just* gets away with it at the end. Or maybe it's even better because of that :).

    Also forgot to post: Gerry Cott, Boomtown Rats.

    @jaygee

    Have a wisdom.

    I asked Guy Pratt who was his fave bassist ever- after eulogising rightly about Entwhistle, he said Norman Watt-Roy. And I'd agree.

    Norman Watt-Roy is astonishing.

    The 'Rhythm Stick' bass-line is awesome - really 'busy' - yet it 'grooves'. His sense of timing is on a whole other level.

    A brilliant player.

    Olga from the Toy Dolls.

    Seriously great guitarist and a great tone from a Telecaster (of course) and a Marshall JCM800

    I would call many of these bands 'punks' .. the Blockheads were a post-punk, new wave band.

    Steve Jones of the Pistols springs to mind. Started playing iin bands in the early 70s and was a great rhythm player. He also played bass in the studio for the Pistols.
