Stage lighting

Not sure if I'm in the right area of this forum for my question but can anyone recommend a set of LED stage lighting? I've seen the types where you can put them on the floor but also hang them from a frame etc. I quite like those types

I can't help with the LED lighting, the last time I used any was when I had a 30k par can based rig, with a desk the size of Wales.

Maybe this may get the right attention in the Live section ?

You're right though, it doesn't easily fit in any section, but a very legitimate question.

I am looking forward to the replies, I really could do with updating my slightly archaic lighting knowledge.

The normal thing these days are LED Par cans controlled via DMX on T bars, there's a billion other moving lights, lazers, foggers etc you can get but your basic rig is generally 2 T bars on stands containing 4 or more LED Par cans. In comparison to normal lamps LED Pars aren't that bright so get the higher wattage types if poss

Yeah the're the ones I mean. Anyone got a recommendation on make etc. By the way Im on a budget so no 30k cans please

Chavet Beamz and American DJ all do good kam sets

I went another way and got two mega beam bars for side fill

All DMXd together via a lighting desk and midi controlled via a Behringer FB 1010

I mix and match depending on the size of the venue (oh there is a hazer in there as well)

For example small pub on saturday so I just used the wedges and moving spots

Like all gear its addictive though. I'd like a dedicated lampie to run it as there is a limit to what I can do with the footboard but its all good

Also you can build up over time.

The hardest bit is how much the DMX cabling adds to the set up time but you can by pass them and run them on auto.. it just looks a bit like a 70s mobile disco to me..

It is run over 110 AES cable for the snobs although standard mic cables are fine

Lighting stuff is really primitive by modern standards

DMX you don't need to worry about too much at the smaller rig size. nce you add desks,scenes and chases in it all gets a bit complicated

@jalapeno - have you used these?  bloody good idea I think.  do I just google lighting gel to go with them?

has anyone got any thoughts on these - they are really cheap on ebay and a few around the front of the band with colored fronts are going to make a good start to a lighting rig.  Obv the main downside is the lack of flashing.

I use an American DJ Mega Bar (1m) on the floor, facing towards the band. It's 'kin bright (don't look straight at it or you'll be seeing coloured dots for days!) - just set it on sound to light and it does it's own thing. Thomann do their own version (Stairville) for about £55.

 I sometimes supplement it with a couple of the Stairville LED par cans (about £35 each when I bought them). Again, set them on the floor pointing at the band, I just set them to a constantly changing colour fade (I don't use a controller but you can add a basic DMX controller if needed). The great thing about leds is that they don't get hot, you can pretty well choose whatever colour you want without having to fanny around with coloured gels and they use very little power (meaning you won't trip out an electrical circuit)
