Neil Finn and Glenn Tilbrook- just because they always 'fit the song'.

    Robert Quine. RIP.
Mick Taylor was never really seen as a virtuoso because he wasn't one of those guitar wankers, he'd just sit nicely in the mix.

Ted Nugent, although not unsung by Ted himself TBH. He may be the world's biggest gobshite ( and surely the natural successor on Top Gear) but people forget he has a way with a riff.

Re Steve Craddock- here is his finest solo- in one of my favourite songs of all time....what a tune.

I agree - I usually play a variation of that solo each time I pick up a guitar.

As far as I know though Weller played the original recorded version.

Unsung is a broad term, so I take it to mean players who have done great things but don't get the credit they deserve, hence:

Ed King of lynyrd Skynyrd fame, fantastic player largely responsible for all the best moments on the first 3 albums yet often overlooked.

Rick Richards and Dan Baird, both great roots rock and roll players but never better than when they were together in the Georgia Satellites

I seem to recall that was the case too...it's the simplest solo ever....

Just minor pent with an added 9th I think....

It truly is one of my desert island discs...means so much to me as a song...

This thread is a bit of a sausage party, so how about Mary Timony out of Helium and latterly Wild Flag. She plays lots of the really cool synthy-sounding parts on the WF album.

The late great Micky Jones from Man.

A knackered old strat, a Peavey Bandit, and two of the best ears ever wired up to two of the best hands to ever touch a guitar.

Amazing- I've never heard a PRS played like that- normally they accompany the sound of an electric dental drill, so this is a huge departure....

Not sure I'd agree about Luke Morley, but Danny of Thunder is surely one of the most underrated singers.

    Steve Clark of Def Leppard.

The epitome of subtle expressive playing. Could say more with one note that most can with 50. Writer of some great and unusual licks

    Agreed on these three.

I'll chuck Bernard Sumner in for the Joy Division stuff and his funky fills in New Order.

My all time under the radar hero is Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column.

Most will have heard some of his work (though not typical) on Morrissey's Viva Hate and some of the early singles like Suedehead.
