Mick Taylor was never really seen as a virtuoso because he wasn't one of those guitar wankers, he'd just sit nicely in the mix.

Ted Nugent, although not unsung by Ted himself TBH. He may be the world's biggest gobshite ( and surely the natural successor on Top Gear) but people forget he has a way with a riff.

Unsung is a broad term, so I take it to mean players who have done great things but don't get the credit they deserve, hence:

Ed King of lynyrd Skynyrd fame, fantastic player largely responsible for all the best moments on the first 3 albums yet often overlooked.

Rick Richards and Dan Baird, both great roots rock and roll players but never better than when they were together in the Georgia Satellites

This thread is a bit of a sausage party, so how about Mary Timony out of Helium and latterly Wild Flag. She plays lots of the really cool synthy-sounding parts on the WF album.

Luke Morley from Thunder...brilliant guitarist in the melodic classic rawk mould. Nutha great player is Bryan Adams guitarist Keith Scott. Yep I does like my melodic players first n foremost....

Amazing- I've never heard a PRS played like that- normally they accompany the sound of an electric dental drill, so this is a huge departure....

Not sure I'd agree about Luke Morley, but Danny of Thunder is surely one of the most underrated singers.

I'll chuck Bernard Sumner in for the Joy Division stuff and his funky fills in New Order.


My all time under the radar hero is Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column.

Most will have heard some of his work (though not typical) on Morrissey's Viva Hate and some of the early singles like Suedehead.
