F%**$%£!!!! PLEASE fix this damned editor !!

Wrong area I know, but I'm appealing to the crowd to jump on the bandwagon.  Please can the admins fix the editor.  It's driving me nuts.  You quote someone and you've got a 50:50 chance of the end result being formatting hell.  I go to the 'source' editor and it's all <span> and <div> and I can't make head nor tail of it.  There are font commands all over the place when you don't even change font....  you can't break out of someone's quote box... it changes font and line spacing seemingly at random !!  Arrrggghh!!!

Does anyone else find the editor to be less than perfect ?

Yeah the editor fucks me off as well.

Id rather have no formatting options and quotes which work than the current situaiton.

Yes, but there are ways round it, you just have to learn some new 'rules'.

If you want to edit what's in the quote box, add some text below *first*, then edit the box - otherwise your text ends up in the box too.

You have to return to the original quote and repeat the process if you want to quote more than one part of it in different places - all in strict order, you can't easily change it afterwards or the cut-and-paste will confuse the formatting.

Add extra returns while you're editing to keep it all separated and stop things jumping into the quote boxes. Delete the unnecessary formatting at the end and it will all look much neater.

It's harder on a phone but you can make most of it work if you try.

the really annoying one -   if you go to the "quote box"  accidently, or on purpose - you cant get back to normal type, unless you add a smileee  and carry on typing, then remove the smilee,  DONT remove the smilee first, cos you'll just end up back in the quite box again......................

Had a strange moment the other day where the cursor kept jumping to another point in the text - which was in the middle of a sentence... grrrr that wasn't fun.

has only happened the once so far.

I've been working on it for a bit. Haven't found anything particularly useful thus far, but I haven't found a totally reliable fix yet.

I just use the source editor. Click over to the html version and add some text right at the end. Then click back over to formatted view and it'll be in the right place.

Yeah. Editor is a pain. Tries to be too clever by half. I thought MR's lack of nested quotes was perfectly OK.

and the underline formatting that disappeared hasnt returned either

i can italic

i can bold

i can strikethrough

but i can no longer underline unless i nick the code from elsewhere

I think it's worth pointing out that as with a few things in Vanilla, because of the way that it's written the Editor works quite well and the Quote function works quite well, but the two plugins trip each other up when used together.

If you get stuck in a quote box you just go to the "show source" view and type anything at the bottom of the page, then switch back.
