Another other 'nother band name thread.

What's Hot

I hate band names. Why can't we all just have a licence number or something?

"I went to see AB 123456756 C last night. They were fucking awesome".

Anyway, I digress.

I've been working with a singer songwriter for 18 months or so now, and over that time her band has become increasingly part of her sound. It was suggested a few weeks ago that we ought to have a name for the band as it gives us an identity beyond just "the band".

We play originals- folk and indie rock influenced stuff around a female singer with an acoustic guitar. I described the first album to a couple of people as being a bit like Island Records in the 1970s without the reggae, but the newer stuff is a little harder and 90s alternative influenced.

We need something fairly short and snappy- Elizabeth Cornish and (the) _______.

Go.

Oh, and a big pre-emptive "fuck off" to any suggestions related to pasties, pixies, clotted cream, surfing and congested B-road routes to the seaside.

Keep it simples. 'Elizabeth Cornish band' although as mentioned in the other thread I don't really like band names with the singers moniker in, I guess it's different if your originals though.

Yeah, if she leaves the band the songs kinda go with her so the issue isn't the same as the covers band called "Sarah and the Sexytimes" fronted by a big hairy bloke called Des.

The Elizabeth Cornish...band, quartet, quintet, group, ensemble, alliance, experience, happening.

Elizabeth Cornish...remembers, and the corners, and friends, on an island, and the passers by,and her casual acquaintances, on tinder, on fire, and the prophets of the ninth generation, in concert.

I kind of think it's a statement about the artistic identity. So if the band is contributing to writing and the songs are primarily band songs not just a backing for an acoustic guitar then I think you should have a band name that doesn't involve the singers name.

On the other hand if you're not part of the artistic identity I think not having a band name is more appropriate.

Somebody and the somethings I don't think is ever appropriate unless it's a random collaboration between 2 distinct entities maybe.

Priority would go to The Elizabeth Cornish band, it's obvious who is who then. The band can take deps and evolve and she can't really leave but you become a band as opposed to singer and band.

    Otherwise you need something like
Elizabeth Cornish and the coast walkers
Elizabeth Cornish and the West coast surfers
Elizabeth Cornish and the other guys
Elizabeth Cornish and the wonky axel
Elizabeth Cornish and the pretzel twisters
Elizabeth Cornish and the mange tout
    Elizabeth Cornish and the lifeguards
    Elizabeth Cornish and the watchtower
Elizabeth Cornish and the Ex Boyfriends.
    Elizabeth Cornish and the ........

    Your go.

I'd leave it as just her name, or The Elizabeth Cornish Band

Adding another name on the end just gives the audience/casual passer by/future fan more to remember.
