This many controls?

8 knobs and 3 switches!

Not for me. I mostly use one sound for bass! I do like LEDs on a bass mind you.

Maybe they aren't controls but in fact some sort of activity centre to keep most bassists occupied between plucking root notes.

That's a Mark King signature bass, isn't it? In which case all the controls are trebles so he can turn them all on full and make a horrible racket. I've often wondered what Level 42 would have sounded like if they also had a bass player.

No, you're right, it would still have been pap. :)

Toggles for hum bucker mode for each pickup and the LEDs.

    Knobs are parametric EQ.

I've played one and they are very good. You can even play proper bass on them not just the intended use. IMHO there's two main groups of bassists, ones who play a P or J in a rock type group or ones that play modern active basses in a funk or top 40 band (sweeping generalisation).

I've played Musicman basses since the 90's because IMHO they do both trad and modern.

I don't like the MK body shape, but I love everything else about Status basses. One of my two main basses is Status.

And the Lord spake, saying, "Four shall be the number of the bass, and the number of the bass shall be four, no more, no less. Five shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, nor three excepting that thou then proceed to four. Six is right out."

Four strings, four knobs, four beats, four notes. The righteous bassist shall live by this rule.

I used to feel the same. I've got a couple of 20 year old ones and they are great

But the newer neck profile is horrible. It's like a piece of 2x2 with slightly rounded corners. Not comfy at all

It might be slightly over-done with the bells and whistles but that sure is a beautiful looking bass.

    That colour, and those lights!

    one day I'll get me a bass…
I reckon it'd have to be a Stingray [not sure if 4 or 5 string tho]

but then… I've always thought the Rick 4002 is just the coolest looking thing ever..
play every note as if it were your first
