IR's were not for me, I saw no real sound quality gain, it was a bit of extra faff (downloading, installing, setting up) and a few extra pounds to get to where the on board cabs already got me. As above, it's not that IRs are in anyway wrong, it's just an extra thing that didn't appeal to me. Maybe the cabs simply work with my gear? who knows. But I'm very happy with them

The Helix cabs are IRs though.  As are the Fractal ones etc...

Yes, I know, but it's just easier to talk in terms of Cabs vs IRs via the loader. Seem to recall it mentioned that the Line 6 Cabs also have some modelling going on too - they are hyrbrid IRs IIRC

So just been messing around with it again and found something interesting on the IR vs inbuilt cabs.

For me, if I'm using amp models, IR all the way. Just adds a certain clarity. BUT! I plugged in 4 cable to my Lonestar and split the chain so the loop feeds the PA. Much preferred the in built cab. In fact, anyone looking for a good emulation of a Lonestar, try the Silver Bell 212 with a 121 ribbon. Sounded fantastic and ab/ing between the amp and direct, it was almost in audible.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

So, my Helix has finally gone back for repair..... and I've been advised there's a 4 to 6 week turnaround.

    Well, f*ck.

    I've got 2 gigs in 3 weeks......!

I have been seriously looking at the helix but the long term reliability is a worry. I have a G10 away for repair and that makes 3/3 failures under warranty on line 6 kit i have used.

Yeah, it's been mentioned on the Line 6 forums a fair bit; however, the issues seem to be one of three things:

    1. Rotary knobs breaking (my issue)
    2. Footswitches not working
    3. Scribble strips becoming distorted

I don't know what the faulty percentages are - and of course those of us with faulty units would be more vocal about it - but I'm actually pretty confident it's a strong and reliable unit. However, having said that; if you're purely using it as a modeller and playing live, for the love of God have a back-up rig....!

Anyone here record guitar and mic into Logic at the same time with the Helix.

I'm trying to get my head around it, but no joy.

I can get it working to a fashion but I can hear the input audio and the monitor audio at the same time. Records fine, but obviously it's hard to record with the latency.

I've read page 44 of the manual a few times now, but I can't get my head around it.

What I would like to do is record guitar and vocals at the same time while monitoring with headphones.

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Mark

You need to turn input monitoring off in logic. When you open a new project, you can turn it off, or you can do it from the audio settings. You are hearing your direct track from helix, plus logic's software monitoring and you get a nasty phasey chorus going on.

Go Audio Logic x - Preferences - Audio - General: unstick Software monitoring and maybe Input monitoring for focused tracks...
