Stopping adds

What's Hot
I know about add block to prevent adds on my PC. But it seems that ad companies can target any device on my network, which is a pain in the arse.
So if I'm searching for a specific subject matter adds start appearing on all devices in my home. A pain in the arse arround Xmas time, or if I should decide I want to look at porn. And porn related add start appearing on my wife's PC.

Are you sure you don't have some kind of virus?

I should imagine Chrome incognito mode is your friend.

  • I'm sure of that plus my main PC has been off more a while.
May just have to force a new IP address some how.

  • Thing is I don't touch any other machine in the house other than my PC or my phone yet ads appear on my wife's PC. The problem is tracking cookies. They track your ip and then ads target that ip

no its not a virus,  its a file that gets downloaded from certain sites (Im desparately trying to find the name of it)    I had it  and got rid of it........  it  Monq is right,  use an incognito mode
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

If you use chrome and have signed in to it that'll also cross-pollinate your cookies and thus ads.

I recommend the Adblock for chrome extension and incognito mode for anything you don't want there's seeing any evidence of.

  • Part of the problem is server side. You goto google (regardless of browser or incognito mode) and your search term and IP address ate logged, so next time anybody goes to a site which uses add, it just looks up your IP address and a list of potentially relevant ads.
Ok I can put Adblock on my PC and phone but I don't have access to the rest of the families computers/tablets/phones
