I thinks it's Tranny. Guess at a Vox tranny of some kind or a Roland JC of some kind, JC50?

    Fender Champ 12?

    Mesa Subway Blues/Rocket?

*edit* whatever it is, I like it. It's not helping my current GAS for a new PRS either! B-)

    No idea :))

Will lurk to see what the answer is.

Sounds nice, whatever it is. I'm tempted to say something Fendery, but it also might be a trick question :))

Polytone Brutes were known for their clean channel, not their distortion and I believe they had a master volume. However, not sure they were that chimey.

    Mmmm
    :-?

  • Definitely not a Roland JC, even though it's quite a "clean" sound. Not a Vox, Fender or Marshall. Best guess would be a good Peavey Bandit, but you say "master volume amp" so it suggests valves. I think I can hear the thump of a 12" speaker.

Ah... now we're getting warm! Some of the latest suggestions are beginning to home in on it, and one is very close. I'd almost give it, if it wasn't for one detail...

Clue 6 - yes, it is American.

  • I think this thread illustrates just how we all hear what we expect to hear. In a side by side comparison, you'd never say a vox sounded like a fender like a Marshall, but when it's a solitary recording, things are a bit different and everyone hears different things!

Well - Clue 7 - the speaker diameter *is* 10"... but no.

    Ha! No.

    Clue 8 - it isn't a hybrid amp ;). (Either way round.)

One more to go and then I'll tell you :).
