Seriously. Honestly.

For my needs, and the sound in my head, this is truly the best amp I've ever heard.

The Lazy J J20 and extension cab.

Set up by none other than Mr Jesse Hoff himself yesterday.

Soulful, harmonic, chiming, sweet, dirty... the whole lot.

Yep. Soulful. That's it...

Doubt away guys... I have arrived.

  • If it's causing you hassle, I'll take the rambler from you. I'll even pay for delivery, save you having to handle having it around.

  • these amps are getting big praise.

Does that mean you like it more than the Carrs?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

  • One day, lazy j will do a blackface sounding version and your head will explode as to which you'd rather have.

Or maybe he won't - fender, Carr, mesa, two rock etc all do the blackface thing well enough.

The J20H has a touch of blackface to it, as well as increased headroom for gigging, the best of both worlds IMO.

  • Not sure I have a sound in my head. Voices, sometimes. Often telling me to buy another amp. Actually i rigged up an extn cab with a Blue in it last night, and went back and forth playing it with the J20 and with the J20 on its own. Got to say I prefer the amp on its own. Jesse said i might. With the cab it gains some spread but loses volume, drive and fullness. Even turning it up didn't compensate for the loss of some richness in the low end. I also, against Jesse's advice, replaced the EHX power tubes with some pricey Philips ones and they have genuinely made it sound better. Only another 2% maybe but an important 2%!

You know mate, I was waiting till I got into work to answer this, and was going to say exactly the same thing.

Yesterday, and through the Cel Blue of all things, I had that kinda BF shimmer which I've been after since the Redplate. The Lazy J does those wonderful cleans, with just that little bit of something...
