Funnily enough I've been toying with the idea of selling mine (Deuce) but can't find an alternative OD to free up some cash and have in its place :(

I've been told an Exotic EP booster is supposed to be good in a J20

That's why I was interested in reading this thread ;)

    Such a big unit though?

i'd be surprised if the Kingsley Page for sale on here wouldn't sound incredible with the j20. Wonderful tube preamp

    I'm getting an amazing sound stacking the following: CC1 > minstrel > haymaker > cruiser > j20

Tried LOADS of pedals and keep coming back to these four!

I'll take my j20 to rehearsal tomorrow and try your scenario if you like @Lebarque ? I'll use my Dinasaural Tube Bender to see if that makes a difference. if it does it may not be good news for you though as they aren't easily got hold of these days :(

I've got a Cruiser I'm not using, if anyone fancies it?

Innocent question from a ‘non-pedal guy’

..If the amp is as great sounding as it’s meant to be, don’t you just want to clean boost your guitar signal and let the amp do the rest?

..or better still, set the amp to drive, lose the pedal and clean up with the guitar volume?
    The answer was never 42 - it's 1/137 (..ish)

Yes, that's what I do, @SunDevil , but the low output pups on my strat have me hankering after a boost to push the amp harder sometimes. Probably a clean boost (with tone control) like you say.

Have you seen/tried the new(ish) Fender Level Set Buffer?

I just got one to try better matching my single-coil pickup guitars with my humbuckers. Not had chance to try it yet, but looks like it should do what I need.

I imagine a MXR Micro Amp Plus would do exactly what you need.

The best clean boost that I've found for my J20 is a Bearfoot Baby Pink Booster. It does something more than just a strictly clean level boost, but whatever it does it's magic!

Agree 100%... it's one of those pedals that works with every amp...

A somewhat different, but effective approach is compression .
Both the Cali76 and the Sliderig work well.

The BPB is a fairly uncomplicated JFET booster. I’d imagine that the Monty’s Little More (designed in conjunction with Steve from Audio Kitchen) does something similar
