Several tons of Walnut- free to a good home

In the back of my garden I have a 300 year old walnut tree and last night, a significant amount collapsed. Having spent the last 4 hours clearing twigs, I am getting most of it ready to be logged up.

A thought occurred- I have no idea whether one of you incredibly talented people could make use of it. It's a waste of decent hardwood if I log it up, store it and burn it all on my log burner. Several branches are 8" to over a foot thick and I can't lift- pickies up shortly.

If you can make use of it, I would be delighted to see it on a feline, a wez, or any other makers instrument in the future. That would be awesome. 

Free to a good home but you will have to come to Warwickshire to collect it- with a bloody big van!

I might sell it but last resort. I would rather give it to one of the fretboard makers if they want it and can make use of it. Time to get the chainsaw out and get it into 6' lengths and burn the twigs.

its a nice idea but probably wouldn't be practical for most of us unless you are able to process it down to lumber first, which would be a big ask

the reason i suggest Andy Prime is because he knows all about sawing trees to make guitar wood and would get the most suitable yield for instrument building... its a skill in itself quite separate from making guitars

Andy Prime really knows his stuff, and cutting down a tree to getting suitable billets for acoustic guitars is quite a lot of work, getting things quartersawn and stuff can be quite tricky! 

Give Andy a call!  It'd be a crying shame to see such quality wood go to waste!

As much as I would love to get some walnut, I also don't really have the ability to process stuff of that size, nor the space to store it for long enough before I could machine it down.

Perhaps try contacting David Dyke- he buys in loads of wood and have industrial sized machines to process this stuff.

Also my tooling is geared around working machined/prepped wood down to a final product.

If I was nearby I'd take it for some guys I know and myself.

It's worth offering the trunk to one of the professional timber suppliers. Only they will have the equipment, experience and space to handle it. The branches don't make stable timber, and are best used as firewood.

Once dried for two or more years I hope to be able to use it for electric bodies.  You could try the same with Walnut.  However for use on acoustics or furniture, or to produce veneers, it's going to need more professional handling.
