Oops...

Ah well, it'll sit nicely alongside the '80s USA std and the Coxon sig...

Nice. Neck could do with being a few shades darker but thats just splitting hairs.

  • I am not buying another guitar at the moment even if the last one was free.  But when I do, I think I'll "need" a Tele and those Cabronitas do look mighty tempting.

  • That looks nice.

So, I gigged it for the first time on Saturday....

    ...and...

    ...it was brilliant!

I play in a covers band doing an eclectic mixture of punk, new wave, ska, electronic[1] covers along with the odd T-Rex and Who song in a very noisy way so subtlety is not really a requirement and the Cabronita is a suitably raucous beast. Ergonomics, weight, balance, and general playing feel is pretty much straight-up Telecaster. Soundwise still recognisably a Telecaster but considerably more muscular.

Elsewhere Ash described the 'Tron pickups as being extremely focussed. If that means the ability to punch through a wall of noise like an anti-tank missile going through a cardboard box then I get it absolutely. It's not for shy and retiring types, if you're the kind of player who likes to be able to hide deep in the mix then look elsewhere, this is not your guitar... On the other hand if you want to make yourself heard in a loud or "busy" band without being particularly loud in the mix it may well be just what you're looking for!

    Need!
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Unfortunately for me the tiny pick guard makes these quite ugly to my eye.

Agreed. It would look better with either no guard or more of a full-size Tele one. (Although the cutout round the bridge pickup would probably have to be different.)

I think the pickguard is actually modelled on Leo's original "Snakehead" prototype and as such is kind of in keeping with the idea of a guitar which might have been in an alternate timeline.

For me it's kind of colour sensitive, I think it works pretty well in white on the brighter colours and less well in black on the darker colours. I didn't buy mine to look at and I got a decent deal on the price so I can live with that....

...Well, until I start getting silly with the MJT catalog anyway :-)

Actually I was thinking of Tortie as a running theme across all three :-)

That's fair enough. I have always been a Tele fan, but just with more of the traditional look. I don't particularly like the modern ones with the 4 pots either (I might just be fussy)

I'm glad you like it and that it sounds good, that's what really matters and it would be pretty boring if we all liked the same thing.
