Completing our journey through the Purple Rain chord progression in tribute to His Purpleness, here's the fourth and final chord in the intro progression after the last three weeks' Bbadd9/D x(1)0311, Gm7add11: 3x0311 and Fadd9: 135211. This one's also a bit of a stretch, but it eschews the similar-sounding Ebsus2 x68866 to generate the extra lushness of the 9th interval on the third string ringing against the the 3rd interval on the second string a tone above it - whenever you play a closed-position chord which contains an interval of less than a minor third between one string and the next, your tendons will often have a price to pay!
Ebadd9: x 6 8 10 8 6
You can see Wendy Melvoin playing the chord in the live recording that was used as the track for the record at 0:44 in this video. Next week I'll do another Prince chord.
