Wedding repertoire - Solo guitar

What's Hot

I'm thinking of getting into wedding music, I'm thinking daytime pre wedding breakfast ambience.  We had a pianist, but I think some people like guitar also.

I'm just after some suggestions for songs to build my repertoire.  I'd offer to do a couple of requests per wedding but I need a core list to work from.

At present I know a handful of classical tunes and a handful of ragtime and Latin but need to get to at least an hour / hour and a half.  I've done a solo gig before at a bar, that worked well but I had a bit more artistic licence there and did a bit of looping.

I'm thinking things like You were always on my mind, what a wonderful world  some Beatles etc....

Any ideas appreciated.  I'd be playing an amplified classical guitar.

  • It's not an especially well-known song but, as shown here, works well as an instrumental....might need your looper:

You should probably include all those ones that people think are nice love songs but are actually quite horrible - fer example, Every Breath You Take, Just The Way You Are, Stinkfist...

I wonder if you'd get away with instrumental versions of otherwise inappropriate songs?

I thought about that.  There are nice tunes that would almost work but are too popular to get away with, like Yesterday and Killing me softly.  But I'm thinking a nice fingerstyle version of Sex Farm by Spinal Tap could get under the radar.  Or 'Short People' by Randy Newman.  Or better still, a very melodic and heartfelt version of the Macc Lads classic 'Sweaty Beaty'.  No harm trying!
