FS Receiver R1155A & Amp? Lancaster Bomber Radio...

...well, maybe. From what I've been able to find out, the R1155 receiver was most famously used in Lancasters in WWII, but also in other aircraft, such as the Sunderland, Halifax and Stirling, as well being deployed in other uses on land and sea.

So. Vintage receiver, with what looks to be a home-made valve amp cut into the back of an RCA Victor loudspeaker MI-22201. £200.

    Hmmmm.

I know someone who might be interested in that.  Let me see if I can track him down.

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

That's very kind Tony - thanks. It's a bit in the nature of a family heirloom - without wishing to go on too much*, it was given to my Dad (when a boy) by his father, so he could listen to the radio; Dad subsequently gave it to my Mum's father** (who spent the war in the back of a Lancaster), and now it's come to me.

It's awesome, but wasted on a halfwit like myself, so it would be great if it could be found a good home :)

    .................
*which is what everyone says before they proceed to do just that.

**I've yet to work out of this was part of the courting process or not.

Boy that's brought back some memories.
As a kid, sitting up till all hours in the loft listening to the most obscure radio broadcasts, trying to identify languages and countries around the globe I'd visited on an identical one of these.  If the conditions were right you could almost hear round the globe.
I could actually smell the hot electronics the moment I saw this picture, amazing what is locked away in memory.
What a lovely bit of old kit that is.

Thanks for the kind words :) It is lovely, and I am trying not to imagine my Dad doing much as you've described with this one, or I'll get too sentimental and end up keeping it!

I've got an impeller from PA474 in my office. The BBMF lads presented it to me when I left Coningsby. Its probably worth a couple of quid

Somewhat unexpectedly, it appears we have to move house this autumn.

I would rather find this a new home than have it move with us, so I'll give one last bump, and should anyone want to make an offer, then please do send me a PM.
