    Plumbers merchants..?
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Would have been a convenient option but I can't tell if I'm being mocked so will try elsewhere

I don't think you were being mocked, unless there is some hidden subtext that I missed .
An ampmaker/repairer in Denmark St just said that they had tubes in stock and gave a link to his site.

My offer is still open too if South London suits you

  • Well, the comments after about plumbers, 'what are tubes?' and the couple of 'lol' reactions to the post I quoted suggest I made some faux pas by saying tube not valve. The post I quoted may not have intended that, but they may have.

I have met @jpfamps ;, used his services and found him to be decent and respectful.

Very strange response from the OP!

If the gentle ribbing you get here on Frets upsets you FCS don't go to any American forums!

I too shall resist the encroachment of "imericanisms" to my dying breath! (tho' I must admit to the term "redplating!)

    Bring back facepalms!

As no one else has spelled it out: "tubes" is what "valves" are called on the other side of the Atlantic. I sometimes use the terms interchangeably, as I have always consumed a lot of North American guitar media and also experience interference from working in German, where Elektronenröhre is abbreviated to Röhre, or "tube". In jest, I sometimes reference eastern European languages, where this word sounds like "Lampe", which can be the German word for a light bulb. The idea of fitting a 100w halogen because you've run out of EL34s is pretty funny, especially combined with the concept of Soviet-era budget bodges.

    "Bottles".
That way everyone knows what you're talking about.

I just hope the OP finds a store in time for the holidays, gets in his auto, puts the pedal to the metal and manages to pull the trigger on one, ready to put it under the hood of his amp....

I don't think it needs spelling out, I'm aware of the difference but I also use it interchangeably, it is one of those things that really doesn't matter

If you truly do use the terms interchangeably and it doesn't matter (to you) which term is used, why did you dismiss @jpfamps above?

    His site even says:

"We also sell amplifier spares, including valves (or tubes if you’re from over the pond), vintage parts, and the excellent British made Tayden speakers."

    and

"We specialise in repairing vintage and classic valve guitar amps (that’s tube amps to our US customers) including Fender, Marshall, Vox, Ampeg, Hiwatt, Gibson, Selmer, Orange, Laney, Matamp, Watkins, Wem, Sound City, Kelly, Traynor et cetera, but work on all types of amplifiers including modern valve amps such as Mesa Boogie and Peavey, and transistor amps such as Roland, Ashdown and Trace Elliot."

    (My bold)

I was not mocking you at all; I was trying get some business by being helpful.

I use the term "valves" as a matter of course. Plenty of people I know call them "tubes".

As a general rule I don't find insulting customers a good business plan.
