My girlfriends cat was knocked over and killed outright around 5pm today.
He was around eight years old and she'd had him since he was a kitten.
I only knew him for just over a year. But he was the sweetest most loving cat i had ever encountered.

Suffice to say Sara has been in bits. I was okay until we got to the vets and then I just lost it. I feel so guilty as i was the one who let him out
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

  • Always terrible when a member of our furry family passes away.

Thanks mate. Sara doesnt blame me at all. You just can't help but think "what if? "

Very sorry to hear that. Both our previous cats were run over too.

Our cat fell ill with a Tumor and was then eaten by a Fox. The cat wasn't really ours, it was a domestic cat that was abandoned so we started feeding it. It lived outside as my Mum is very allergic to fur. It must have been at least 19 so lasted for a while.

So sorry to hear that. Had to have one of ours put down last April, still miss her even now. They are very much part of the family so a painful loss when they go  :'(

  • Totally feel your pain man. Lost my cat of 17 years in 2015. Breaks my heart just thinking about her last few moments, cradled in my arms, as her life slipped away.
On a lighter note, we adopted a couple of rescue kittens soon afterwards. So soon afterwards that my wife questioned whether, if she died now, how soon would it take me to get over her loss and a new wife?
    Around 2 weeks.

  • So sorry to hear of your loss. Those of us with cats can imagine the pain you and Sara are suffering. These furry dudes really get inside your heart.

'What ifs' are totally pointless - so don't go there. What if Sara hadn't adopted him? He could have had a less loving life. You can apply a 'what if' to every moment he was with you and Sara... and the consequences would have been... who knows what. You weren't driving the car... and you weren't influencing what made the cat walk the wrong way at the wrong time.

Don't beat yourself up. You and Sara looked after and loved him... and that's all any furry dude can ask of you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had to watch one of our cats deteriorate almost to nothing because of FIP. We had to have him put down and we were with him at the end which was pretty awful. I seem to be the type of person who goes to bits for a few days and then recovers, but it was pretty awful at the time.

    Best wishes!
