Fender Custom Shop channelling Gibson at NAMM 2017?

What's Hot
fandangofandango Frets: 2204

Some tasty Fender Custom Shop productions at NAMM 2017 (http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/namm-2017-fender-custom-shop-stand-in-pictures-647167)

Worth a peek through the 50 guitars (= 50 USA States?) but whilst there's a lot of bling paint jobs (a strat's a strat, isn't it) there are some interesting Gibson take-offs:
#601 Jackson F-Bird Mahogany
#608 Jackson White Monarkh
#609 Jackson Black Monarkh
#615 X-Stroyer Vanilla Shake

PS - Sorry, can't upload photos, so you'll have to make do with the link.

There wasn't a single one I would want, most looked dreadful to me and I usually love wacky stuff.

I don't know what the hell is up with this bridge or what improvement it is over the normal Mustang one.

Paul Frank has great taste in whacky axes.

RECEPTIONIST: LEO, there's a customer one the phone, wants to order a guitar with a fancy sparkle finish and is gonna pay top dollar for it!
    L. FENDER: Great! What model do they want?
RECEPTIONIST: He wants a Telecaster. He says he wants us to paint it, then take some of the paint off.
    L. FENDER: Take the paint off?!
RECEPTIONIST: So's it looks like somebody been playing it a bunch! Seems this guy don't play so good but he wants look like he plays all'a time to impress people!
    L. FENDER: [Looks into camera, shakes head]

Not the one that might grab the attention but if I could do a supermarket grab through that lot I'd be taking the Cabronita strat home. Still wondering why Fender haven't had a go at making a MIM or Squier level strat Cab ( or Luchador as previous custom shop ones were called).

The hand painted paisley has given me a frankly amazing idea (albeit a clearly obvious one).

    Thanks for posting.

I like the Irish Roots tele - the one that looks like it's come out of a skip and probably costs an absolute fortune.....

I quite like the explorer copy, I suppose..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

  • Massive credit to Fender.  They are becoming more and more unashamed in selling snake oil.
