It's a trick of the light with the black bits at the edge. It's his standard JS1000 but from certain angles looks like a different shape. Took me a short while to figure it out

Yeh, just the standard shape with the Chickenfoot logo as the paint job I think. He had a white one with the logo in black as well and Anthony has one of his ( Yamaha?) basses done in black with the white logo.

I've never really been a Superstrat fan, never seriously considered buying one... but this reminds me that the JS is a very elegant design, they got it spot on with the body shape, the contouring, almost everything.

I think Sammy is closing in on 70. If I can look that good at that age and be having that much fun, I'll be doing well...!! Satriani has a new guitar out at NAMM with a sustainer

They're very comfortable guitars. Nice rounded necks and the contours are more comfy that a strat.

I would agree. Its easily one of the most comfy guitars to play IMO. The neck is quite vintage in feel since its based around a Strat and the aerofoil body shape is very ergonomic. People tend to stay away from the guitars if they're not Satriani fans, but they're missing out.

You know what I'm going to say though... neck's too skinny.  Although I gather by Ibanez standards it's a veritable Giant Redwood.

Just sold my JS1000 to a forumite and recently been very much enjoying my own hardtail oil finished mahogany JS again..... Took my Strat to rehearsal last night and in comparison to the JS it's a real lump.

As @hubobulous says those who steer clear because of the name are definitely missing out.
