I knew if his voice years before I knew anything about him. The voice of Aragorn in the animated Lord of the Rings. He had a great voice. RIP.

I remember The Naked Civil Servant, years ahead of its time - I think it changed British Society for the better, simply an acting tour-de-force !  RIP

A great actor who never seemed to have any pretentiousness about him.  He was in a lot of good films and a lot of really terrible ones, but it never seemed like he was cheapening himself - rather that he gave the film a touch of class, even if only for the few minutes when he was actually on screen.

Lots of anecdotes about him on Radio London this morning from drinking with the public in the pub to seen regularly walking to work in Theatreland... Seems he just loved to always have a job on...

I loved the bit when playin' the character  John Merrick  he was chased into the public toilets by an angry mob and with his back tae the wall he shouted....."I'm not an animal I'm a man ..........I'm the elephant man"     so touching

1984, The Naked Civil Servant, I Claudius, Alien, Watership Down, etc all enriched by his presence. A great actor, without being too much of a "great" actor.

I seem to recall he had declared serious illness a while back so not a shock, none the less very sad and a great loss to humanity and his chosen profession.

Great actor, i only rewatched alien two days ago. The elephant man is a brilliant film.

Always wonderful performances.  Even the soundtrack work he did added more than any Attenbrough would.
