  • He is great and I would love to see him backing up a really great singer / songwriter because I feel that most of these highly accomplished guitarists work best in that kind of a setting.  Their own writing is weak IMO (Pete Thorn, Guthrie, etc).

I think you're right there... some of these fantastic guitarists need to go old School, find musicians and vocalists they click with and form some great bands! It's not the done thing at the moment when their best income stream is youtube though! I feel like it means we'll miss out on a generation of potential Totos, Steely Dans etc!

    Yeah for sure!

Hopefully Guthrie will continue to work with Steven Wilson because that has been his best work to date IMO.  Pete Thorn would be great backing up a rock vocalist like David Lee Roth.

Very accomplished and some pretty playing but utter muzak.

Still, a lot of people like this stuff.

A wanna like it because there is some real talent there, but It's just a bit dull and bland.

Nice thread Chris. His double stop approach in sweet. I'd never heard of him until you posted this up.

Cheers @equalsql , I get the feeling we'll be hearing a lot more of young Mateus over the coming years.  He seems to have that something extra in his feel for the instrument that stands out against so many other great players the world is producing.

There seems to be a lot of talent in Brazil, and South America, and an interestingly different latino approach to both rhythm and melody.  That difference in approach is one of the things I so enjoyed about your old Korean Indie postings.

I'm a big fan. That is exactly my kind of guitar playing, lovely phrasing, tone etc.
