Esquires

What's Hot

Anyone on here play one? I'm thinking of shifting my LP for one for 3 reasons so far.

1. I keep going for my Mexican tele over my LP. Just seem to prefer the feel and sound these days.
2. When I do play my LP I try to make it sound like my Tele.
3. I never use neck pickups.

I think that all points to an esquire!

Just convert your Tele - all you need is a new pickguard and to rewire the switch. Esquires have the neck pickup rout anyway.

You should notice an interesting difference in tone on the bridge pickup without the neck one there.

Loads of my customers have built/converted Teles to Esquire Spec. I love em ... especially with the wiring done so as you have a 'blower' position. Heaven for tone is an alnico 2 equipped Esquire ... bugger all string pull and sustain for days :)

what do you mean by "blower" wiring?
ie bypassing the vol/tone pots and cap, and straight to the output?

Would be nice to see a few more Esquires in the Fender line up.

Ideally, I'd like an Esquire, a single pickup Cabronita and a single P90'd Tele, all with Esquire wiring. My wife would absolutely kill me, though.

Haha, she thinks a red Strat and a red Les Paul are "the same." No flies on my lady.
I have to tell her, we haven't got a big enough house to hide stuff. Unfortunately.

  • My tele was converted quite a while ago, and I love it.

Position one is directly out bypassing vol and tone,

two is standard bridge with Vol and tone, and 3 is sort of the Eldred mod, works brilliantly.

Best thing I have ever done !

I've been thinking about this since I posted earlier - sorry to derail the thread, but i'm going to Esquire my Tele now. Did you do the mods yourself Kone? Difficult? I am fairly spam-fisted with a soldering iron, but could have a bash if it's not too dificult.

    Yup ... exactly that
my last Esquire type had switching for full power and tap (6.5k and 9.5k) on the pickup plus complete bypass.

sorry to derail, buti have a tele that i am currently in the process of "esquiring" but it has to be a humbucker at the bridge (really bad route job, don't ask). thoughts on a hot PAF with coil tap and 'blower' option on 2x push-pull pots?

  • Careful.  Them there Esquires have big fat necks.
Money, guitars, cars, football, beer and women - roughly in that order.  Also, black things are good.  All hail the Lords Black, Burnel, Cornwell and Greenfield - and Squire Warne.  Currently levelling buildings with a Precision bass for the unrivalled www.daphnedontfloat.com

Some do... but not all. A 60s Esquire has the skinny 60s profile.
