Guitars that caught your eye as a kid.

I used to get the bus into town and stare longingly at Les Paul Customs through Manchester shop windows. Black and gold, gorgeous.

Then there was the row of vintage Gretches in daft colours like orange and green, suspended high up, physically and financially out of reach... I'd spend half an hour mooching around before leaving with a handful of picks.

Plan on buying a black 80's LPC at some point as a keeper, better than a birth year guitar imo.

The one that always springs to mind is the Azureglo Ric 4001 that I saw in a shop window around Charing Cross Road, probably in '84/'85. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen and I still want one to this day.

Always Strats - I didn't really know about other shapes until I went through my Dad's Duane Eddy records and they were boring (the Guilds not the twangy tunes). I got into Teles when I saw Tim Farriss of INXS fame wielding one on the back cover of "Kick". Now I love most things.

I can still remember it as a kid now it was a Rickenbacker 325 v59 and bigsby trem. I'd stare at it longingly many a time....couldn't have one now as they're so small and the other one was a Gretsch 6118 in bogey green.

it was my second favourite magazine page (after the picture of Jet from Gladiators in the Radio Times).

I remember peering in guitar shop windows at the natural finished Strats they had in there with the white plastics and thinking they were really cool. They had the similarly finished Musicman Sabres at the time too.



I really must get a reissue version one day.

Probably better than the originals too.

Always been Strats for me. There was a brand new silver 25th anniversary Strat hanging on the wall in Hodges and Johnsons in Southend where I got my first guitar, a Fender Bronco.  From then on all I wanted was a Strat. Most of the music I love has been played on one too.

I used to travel up to London most weekends to go and oggle the guitars in Denmark Street and the surroundings (mid to late 80s). I used to lurk around in Andy's Guitar Workshop trying to find a cool guitar that they'd priced up wrongly (read: affordably).

Back then I would have been going ga-ga over Gibsons - my favourites were always the P90'd Les Paul Goldtops. Cooler than a penguin's plums... I remember Roka's having a 1952 Goldtop with the understrung Trapeeze tailpiece. It was battered but beautiful and I seem to remember it being almost affordable... well, in my dreams perhaps. I never did buy a 'real' one (came close once) but my 2010 50s Tribute Gibson will do.

Fender Jaguar for me .. bloody loving looking things .. couldn't stand playing one though when finally got the chance .. why the sharp plastic switches right where my strumming hand goes up and down? Why no room between tremolo and strings for my fingers .. why lord, why??

First of all it was Jazzmasters then White Les Paul Customs. 

Still never owned a JM but I did have a black LP Custom, and it was lush. So I sold it (twat).

A Gretsch White Falcon ,This was in the early 60;s .it took my breath away .The salesman even let me play it and gave me a cataloque.It was a shop in Leytonstone .Not sure of its name .
