Anyone won on competitions ?

Must have been 1990 when I won tickets to the Birmingham Super Prix via a competition in the local paper. Not quite Monaco! Whilst there I won a t-shirt and bag from some horrid lced tea promotion stall, but still I felt dead lucky. 

Same local paper I won a Springsteen VHS (same year he played Villa Park in the Tunnel of Love Tour, so 1988).

If we are adding premium bonds to the mix I did win a £1000 a little while back.

With his childlike sig inside it's more like £25-40.   But they did give me £100 of virgin experience vouchers too.  

I would have been happy with the book.... or paying off the credit card for me, that might have been nice

When I was a kid I won a Cadbury's Wispa mug in a tombola at a cash-and-carry, and nothing since until about five years ago I entered a couple of competitions on the BBC wireless. One of them I won a double-CD of Roy Orbison (which I gave to my mum) and on another I won the deluxe re-issue of the first Love album, which finally replaced my old vinyl copy.

Since then, nada.

Oh I did win a tenner with my first ever lottery ticket, but again, since then, nada!

Oh, my uncle won Sale of the Century - this was probably nearly 40 years ago so it wasn't the start of us being a showbiz family. 

What did he win, a caravan or a set of crockery?

About ten years ago, maybe a little longer, I entered a radio competition and ended up winning a Gibson Voodoo Explorer. Sadly, I was late for work due to entering and even more unfortunately, due to being on my last warning it ended up me getting the sack. No amount of reasoning provided any forgiveness from the management. Anyway, when the guitar finally arrived I had to sell it due to my not-so-great financial state and no job. From what I remember, I got roughly about £500 for it. I was absolutely gutted. I feel a bit pissed of now tbh.

I think what happened is he won one week but to get a decent prize ( like a Lada) you had to come back the next week and try to double your money - which he did but didn't win again so didn't actually come away with much. 

On the the back of my original post I read some stuff about the history of the show which was surprisingly long and complex. Highest value prizes on British tv at the time. 

Slightly later on I knew the family who won a series of Ask the Family. That was a cash prize but they got asked what they were going to do with the money ( why do they do that?) to which the answer was a new cooker and a Lowrie print.

I wouldn't worry, I imagine most of the people that went to Woodstock don't even remember being there.
