Lace Sensors: A question

What's Hot
digitalscreamdigitalscream Frets: 26579
Anybody have a decent amount of experience with Lace Sensors? I've got a Red in the bridge position of my main guitar, and I really want to get another for the neck position. The trouble is, I have no idea which one would be an appropriate partner for it in terms of output levels.

Help?

    Lower out put as their is a lot more string movement in that part of the guitar. The pack was Red, Silver and Blue, so Blue is probably the correct one, although I´d try a gold as well. Their are are lot more of them these days than their used to be!!!

    Yeah...the Silver was my first thought, but that seems a little too low-output relative to the Red. On the other hand, I wonder if the Blue's too hot.

    In this particular guitar, swapping neck pickups is a right ballache, so I want to try to make the right choice first time round.

    I've just recently bought a new pre wired scratchplate with red/silver/blue sensors and a super switch   (7 way toanz on tap adding the neck in to whatever you have selected) - they match well and are sold as a 'calibrated' set. the blue is like a fat p90'ish sound....with this set you do lose some sparkle and twang but you do gain more beef. Golds are the nicest sounding for trad strat toanz....but not as good for dirty sounds. I've had hot golds about 10yrs ago and they was ok to.

    Just going by the descriptions on the website, Purple might be worth considering - they say it's between Burgundy and Blue.  But also do you want a hot single-coil sound or a pseudo humbucker sound?

    It's a long time since I've tried Lace Sensors, but around 1989 I had one of the early Strat Plus Deluxes with Blue/Silver/Silver.  When they changed the spec I copied it and got Red/Silver/Blue, but I remember I preferred the original setup!

    Gold was the main colour on the Strat Plus in all positions - then they changed for the Strat Plus Deluxe to silver/silver/blue then another change to  Red Silver Blue

    check this guy out http://xhefriguitars.com/page2.html - probably the definitive info on Strat Plus models

    @guitars4you Zounds! What a web page! :scream: One Wow will not cover it. All that swimming pool routing makes me feel slightly queasy, though. :confounded:

    I never liked the silver, its too polite and thin sounding, great for funk but nowt much else.  The blue is the typical pairing with the red but I found it a little bassy and compressed sounding.  I went for a dimarzio hs2 in the neck with the red in the bridge and I couldnt of been happier with a silent set.

    in fact the HS2 is the pickup I always default to for a great sounding singlecoil.

  • My Strat Plus had gold/gold/gold for many years and now has gold/gold/red. I have tried blue in the neck position but it wasn't Stratty enough for my liking. I can't say I have any problems with volume disparity between neck and bridge, and I don't have one set really high and the other really low or anything. I would tend to go off what sound you are trying to achieve rather than worrying about output.

    @grungebob maybe I will try an HS2!!

    its a great pickup, you can wire it humbucking or split.  over the years I've used it more in split as it still provides a lot of noise reduction whilst sounding like a strat, humbucker mode it sounds a little more like a sensor blue but less compressed.

    Sounds like a plan, cheers. :) I had a Hot Rails Neck in there for a while, if you wanna talk about compressed!!
