Avalon A101-CE Circa 2004
A VERY fine acoustic - handmade by Avalon (Former builder of LOWDEN guitars) in their Newtownards Factory in Co. Down
Typical Avalon features of the time, AAA grade woods - cedar & mahogany, hardwood bindings, Grover machines, 25.5" scale, 1.75" nut. Three-piece neck - two lengthwise and one at tip of headstock.
Fishman pickup - works and sounds fantastic. S/N: A00888
It's one of a relatively small run of Irish "Gold Series" A guitars made. "A"-size is similar to Taylor 14/GA, Martin 0000/M or Lowden F. General tone: Great projection and volume with that combination of warmly bright, woody and lively harmonically rich tone that makes these Irish guitars great. Action is currently set for comfortable fingerpicking with moderate flatpicking (of course easy to adjust per preference).
Visually, you can see some small dings in the softer cedar. That said, overall appearance is very good, none of them have a negative effect or hide its overall beauty of materials or tone. It's rock solid and it has aged gracefully with no cracks, separations or structural weakness.
Bottom line: it's great guitar! If you'd like to add that wonderful cedar/hog Irish sound, it's hard to beat at anywhere near the price.
