I use a free piece of software called Hydrogen on my laptop. You can create your own beats and rhythm tracks and export them as MIDI or .wav too if you're using a DAW. I'm pretty sure they have a Mac version too.

For windows, there's a free metronome app I used to use that did complex rhythms and visualised patters with bouncing balls and was very easy to set up - unfortunately I cannot remember its name.

There are simple metronomes for Android /iOS.
MuseScore has a built in metronome, LMMS (https://lmms.io/) is a free DAW but no recording facility (??), . . .. I prefer Reaper - powerful but inexpensive.
I try to tap with my metronome when I'm playing/practising at home.

Jamming to backing tracks has probably helped a lot as well.

Developed by the guitar player who plays with John Scofield it has a random mute % slider so you can practise keeping in time without the metronome. It also has a gradual setting which slowly increases the amount of silence.
Come on, that's not going to help, is it?

and hooked it up to this Vox Pathfinder Bass amp:

It's a good alternative to the metronome (which I use, as well). Lots of patterns that you can modify, if you want. You can add bass lines, as well...but they're more limited.
