Use a Fuzzface instead of a muff on track 3 of an ep my band did many years back.

Amp fell off of table onto a Micro Korg.. That was fun. Amp was fine, Korg was knackered.

A 1987 poo green Chandler Custom Stratocaster with solid quilted maple body. I still have it although the only thing that is original is the wood. Everything else has been replaced.

1: What was your first guitar and when did you get?
A 12 string EKO ranger, with only six strings on it. I had it when I was eleven, and would walk to school, playing it on the way there and back.

My 1994 Japanese Fender ’50’s’ Strat in fireburst Fotoflame. Loaded with Seymour Duncans. Many, many an adventure has been had with this, the first electric I bought.

My 1981 G&L F100 Series II. In bright yellow.

Already on the case. I’ve an electric baritone being made for me, by a local luthier Adrian Lucas. Basswood body, mahogany neck, with a Laburnum fingerboard. Gotoh 510UB Bridge, Bulldog Pickup P90’s. It’s a looker, and it’s so nearly ready.

That I’d had more mid in the amp EQ.

Throwing up, after contracting a virus, and then having to withdraw to the toilet for the res tof the gig…

Relax, enjoy yourself. You are right to try to tread your own path, and not copy the known ‘heros’. Listen wide, and take inspiration from all walks of the musical life.
Fender Squier Strat, I got it in 1998 as part of a starter pack thing, so you get the amp, stand, strings, etc etc all for £195 back in the day!

Focusing on playing a great set, going for a piss 10 times, last minute stretches.

Glugging a pint of water and still getting my stuff off stage.

Wireless transmitter coming off strap, or guitar going horrendously out of tune after first song (mainly due to it being freshly restrung and not stretched).

Get a good tutor, and get as close to those 10,000 hours of practice!

Violently ill whilst doing a dep on a pre xmas Dover to Calais booze cruise thing as part of the onboard entertainment. We all thought we had sea legs but the English Channel totally did us. Four young guys trying to play 60’s hits to a disinterested audience whilst vomiting… the stuff of nightmares… turned down all future offers for that dep!

Don’t get hung up on the technique, the reward is in being an integral, soulful part of the music, not showing off!

Boxing Day 1995 or 96 I spent £36 of my Christmas money on an horrendous classical guitar from Argos. I do wish I still had it though.

My Fender Jaguar. A fiesta red Jag was literally the picture I had on my wall as a teenager so I was delighted when Fender brought out the Classic 60s version a few years ago and even happier to discover it was perfect for me.

1998 Fender Strat, the first good guitar I ever owned following the classical and a fairly rough Squier Strat.

I've never had a good acoustic, quite fancy a Martin DRS-1.

I would have looked after the recordings I made as a teenager better if that counts. Backed everything up to MiniDisc(!) then chucked a load of the out forgetting what was on them.

My first gig ever was outdoors by the sea. It was freezing, my hands were numb and I kept misjudging where my fretting hand was on the neck, it was brutal.

play with people more, learn songs not just bits of songs, keep playing and don't take 10 years off, oh and learn some theory
