Ms Redford told broadcaster abc7 that the airline "hadn't done anything" for two weeks after she had filed a formal complaint.'
The broadcaster's just taking the piss now.
if the worker was “mocking” physical appearance or disability in exactly the same way (laughing, photo, online share) the response and wave of sympathy for the girl would be huge.
a 5 year old girl should expect to be able to go about her life without being ridiculed by adults.
I think that sounds quite nice as well but, if I were my naming my daughter that, Abcde wouldn't be the way I spelled it. The mother clearly chose the spelling first over the name to make her daughter stand out. It seems a bit rich to complain when someone then takes notice.
Also, I imagine being an airport worker is a pretty dull job and seeing that someone is called Abcde would be a bit of a highlight (of sorts) in the day and you might tell a co-worker or two. I haven't seen the post they made to Twitter so don't know if it is along the lines of 'wow, what an unusual name' or 'look at this stupid little girl with a stupid name'. I'm not inclined to automatically believe that the girl was mocked rather than noticed but wouldn't dismiss it either.
Now, it might be that having to deal with that will make a person self confident or thick skinned or possibly the reverse.
So Mrs Hunt, do not name your boy Isaac.
The Freakonomics guys did some interesting research into the power of names, and how they can change perception etc.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
I have a difficult to pronounce/spell surname which causes all sorts of issues, but it's not likely my parents deliberately picked it, and they gave my brother and I both very straightforward Christian names to keep things as simple as possible.
Abcde is up there with "Semaj" in terms of parental stupidity
