I asked Guy Pratt who was his fave bassist ever- after eulogising rightly about Entwhistle, he said Norman Watt-Roy. And I'd agree.

The 'Rhythm Stick' bass-line is awesome - really 'busy' - yet it 'grooves'. His sense of timing is on a whole other level.
A brilliant player.
Steve Jones of the Pistols springs to mind. Started playing iin bands in the early 70s and was a great rhythm player. He also played bass in the studio for the Pistols.
