Hands up who struggles with the timing of the little bluesy lick after the first couple of chords in Back In Black?

It's the bend on the A to G on the 3rd string that does it for me :-(

    Not anymore.

But I've been playing it since 1989 and spent about a decade being addicted to that band.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Yup, how is something so easy, so difficult.

    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

I think the trick is to just pick the first note of the bend on the A, and then play the rest of the notes on the G string as a let-down-bend followed by a pull off to the open G.
    It's not a competition.

  • The harder part is not fudging up the chromatic thing at the end of the second part of the riff, for me

It's that bend, more stiff so close to the nut.

I can play it no problem.

    Teaching it however.......

I don't have a problem with it, but on a vaguely similar note, Zep - Black Dog. If I listen to the drums too much, it puts me right off and I'll fuck up what is otherwise, a very straightforward riff.

I have derived a cheat mode for this. In the heat of the fight no-one notices!

Strange as it is - I have got an 8 year old playing the main chord riffs on a nylon 3/4 acoustic with just 2 finger chords!

My mate, who was a pretty good player, and an ac/dc nut, couldn't get it 'right'. Pissed him off, no end! I can't get it right, either!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Andy,.main guitarist at our jam has it nailed,.  I always struggled with it but recently twigged I was probably, because I was struggling, coming in 1/2 1/4 beat too early.  Once I delayed it just longer than I felt I should it seems to play a lot easier (even though playing it quicker)

Years of playing that riff and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) have meant I've got the bend on the G pretty much nailed.

AC/DC are one of those bands though - you think it's simple stuff and then you put the record on and play along and, all of a sudden, you sound very shoddy :)

I don't have trouble with it- the main issue I see is both guitarists in a 2 guitar band trying to play it t the same time, which can make it sound weird if their timing is slightly off.
Better to decide who is going to be Angus and who is going to be Malcolm.

The other thing I see people doing is ripping out some ridiculously fast modal solo over it.
    That doesn't work for me.

I have always struggled with this.  I've never found a singer willing to do it so I've not had the motivation. I'll have another go when I get home.

My headfuck riff is the 12 string intro to Dead or Alive ............easy to play but so easy to fuck the timing when it goes from the double stops to the A

I can do it without thinking, but that's probably because I used to play in an AC/DC tribute band :)
IMHO the trick to making all AC/DC sound "right" is super tight timing. Once you're in that groove everything tends to fall into place.
Getting my 10 year old son to do it right is another thing, though.

I suspect i don,t play it correctly but no one notices at a gig really as long as you maintain the feel.
