Shimming Nut??

What's Hot

I picked up a 3/4 size Encore (in pink) for my daughters a while back.  The nut is way too low - especially as I think the neck needs shimming as well.  I don't want to spend a fortune on something I only paid £40. I don't have the tools to cut a new nut blank anyway.  I was just thinking to put a shim under the nut to raise it up a bit.

Does anyone know a good material to use?  I'm guessing I need something that's not too soft, but at the same time it needs to be something I can shape.
