Educational Podcasts ?

What's Hot

I spend a significant amount of time on the road and I'm bored with listening to the same old radio stuff etc...  I rather fancy using my driving time more productively.  Does anyone know of any training / educational podcast type things that I could use to better my knowledge ?

Or, slightly more seriously, I grab a whole load of different radio 4 podcasts every week.  There's loads of stuff there, I never get time to listen to it all.  And a lot of the Economist articles are also free as podcasts.

Depends what you mean by "educational" really ...

Not sure how educational they are but I find desert island discs very interesting. Plenty of choice as well, http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs# Started listening to the Bob Harris one yesterday.

Most of the world's top universities offer courses and seriously interesting stuff. Check out Apple's iTunes U .. you can study with Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard or just download something interesting. I recvently listened to an interesting pod cast on ambient music from Berkeley university of California.

That's one of my fave's.  I started at number 1 about three years ago... I'm up to April 2012 as of today.

"In Our Time" -- lots in that one too.

    Two more:

    "Think" from KERA

And Planet Money is really interesting!  Don't let the title put you off cos it's not really about money.

And....  The Great Courses  -- I love these, they're very well put together and perfect for driving (I do about 2 hours a day).  Also, don't let the prices be off putting cos if you keep monitoring the UK and the US site the prices change, very heavily discounted offers come up with regularity, and the last time I got half a dozen I talked to one of the operators and got a huge discount.

Firstly concentrate on your driving my friend.  There is a difference between driving and listening to music/chat on the radio to driving and listening to an instruction CD.

Almost as bad IMHO as using a phone while driving.

Yep, goes without saying.  Don't do anything to jeopardise life or licence.

However, average driving speed in London though can be 8.98 mph.  You can sometimes get up to about 19 mph.

I got up to 19 mph in London in 1987 ...

  • Check out Desi Serna's guitar music theory podcasts. Excellent clear tuition. For free. I'm understanding things that were mysteries to me for ages. His fretboard theory books are also excellent.

Yeah this. Absolutely brilliant guitar tuition and again it explains quite complex stuff in a way that really easy to understand.
