My stepson and his wife both work for the NHS (project planning manager and nurse specialist respectively) so Exeter looks a good bet for work for the pair of them.
In that case they'd have even more work options as, apart from Exeter itself, it's not that far to commute to Plymouth where there is Derriford and all the health support services that go with it. Living in/near Exeter and commuting to Plymouth would be preferable to the other way round.
Great, always useful to know stuff like this. Thank you!  ;)

Just one more tip: If considering Exeter area make sure you avoid the flight path of Exeter Airport.

The Exeter area is a good call. The Somerset coast is pretty horrible, so Devon is better for that, plus there's Dartmoor etc.

On the other hand anywhere in the quantocks is lovely

Good tip...Also the A30 around that area is the noisiest road in Britain. They used concrete for the road surface instead of Tarmac, which left little ridges that cause terrible tyre noise..locals complained but the council said it will wear down...Year right, in about 30 years maybe  :s

In all the hundreds of times I've driven past Exeter airport, I can't have seen more than half a dozen planes in total.

It's expanding and getting busier though. There's probably something going over every 20 minutes or so during the busy months.

It's my dream (and the wife's) to move to Devon at some point, maybe in 10 years. Personally we love Dartmoor but places their are pricey so we're thinking more Newton Abbott area, just not the shitty part.

Buckland and Broadlands, are the 'shitty parts' of Newton abbot. But then you get bad places in all areas.
The areas surrounding Dartmoor are really nice and wont be any more expensive. Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh, Hennock etc...

I used to do removals for many years, so have travelled around the UK quite a bit, and im always feel lucky to have been brought up and live Devon. There are still 'shitholes' down here, but nothing like 'up noorth'.
