    No gate in on the expander.
    Oh yes there is ...

    GATE:
    0V (off) to +5V (on) gate signal generated from low note priority/ legato Keyboard circuit. (This jack may also be used as a GATE INPUT.)

    Ooh, I thought Moog said there were issues using the gate out as a gate in.

    The next question is how many do I now need! Two more? Three?

    I got myself a microbrute which i'm very happy with. I'm using a Virus Kb as my main keyboard but would consider selling it for an analog polysynth, even at the expense of less features - are there any decent polys in the £500 range?

    New = Minilogue.
    Older = JX3p, maybe a Matrix 6, Sixtrak.

    All of them will be 1/10th as flexible as the Virus, and there are sounds you'll never get from them that the Virus does with ease. Not an easy decision to make. (The correct answer is to have both, naturally!)

    If you can push the £500 budget a little, the Behringer Deepmind 6 seems excellent value

    thanks for your suggestions - there lies the dilemma....the versatility of the virus vs the superior sound (IMO) of the analog polys. I have the entire moogerfooger range though so perhaps they can dramatically expand the scope of the latter via CV interfacing, to the extent that the virus becomes obsolete?

    Me and the 9 yr old have had lots of fun with the nord a1, not cheap (although shopped around for good deal) very well easy to use and sounds are stunning! 808 state, floyd very easy

    From the nobody-saw-that-coming department ... Roland has just launched a Minimoog clone! Dinky sized, true analogue, patch memories, sequencer, delay, etc for $499. CV/MIDI/USB for connecting to just about anything.

    See here: https://www.roland.com/global/products/se-02/

    That might just end up being a positive - I can't imagine Behringer not producing theirs now to avoid embarrassment, and they'll absolutely have to undercut Roland on price.

    Something doesn't feel right with Roland cloning Moog to me though.  You expect that from Behringer.

    I find it quite amusing that in the guitar world, much of what is on offer is just a clone of something else. Do that with a synth and wait for the righteous indignation, wailing and gnashing of teeth.
    Yes, I have just come here from Gearslutz. :-)

    My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

    Well I never expected to find modular nerds here -  MuffWiggler roolz!

    Thing that beats me about the mini synths are the two octave keyboards - not everyone wants to do basslines all day.
