Trading at a distance

I live near Belfast which limits the number of members that I could have a trade meeting with.  I have met up with a member who also lives on this island and we discussed the limited pool of people interested in nice gear.  

Has anyone worked out a risk free, low cost way to carry out a trade using couriers? There are plenty of guitars that have come up that I would have been interested in but they were on the mainland.

Any thoughts?
There is Gumtree but it can be a bit of a pain in the ass with silly offers. 'Your amp seems a bit complicated but I would take it off your hands'
