Always loved the solo on 'I could have lied' by rhcp. Frusciante keeping it emotive and understated.

The one on Mardy Bum by the Arctic Monkeys, just pops up as a little emotional beat in a song that pretty much sums up my marriage, love it!

It's so much your favourite that you can't even spell it. =)

In the context of a great song, the outro around 3:05, there are longer versions but you get the gist.

I think that was Ian Bairnson on the early Kate Bush albums, a superb player (was in a band called Pilot in the 70s) but has done all sorts with great feel and chops... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5_SntHyr0M

ALL of this brings a tear but the beautiful interwoven tones of both the acoustic and Ronno's Les Paul are sublime. You don't need copious notes - just well chosen ones...

So many to include, but if we're talking emotion and a solo fitting the song, it's hard to beat Steve Rothery. For me, the two solos that nail perfection for me are Jigsaw and Incubus.

He gets a lot of plaudits for Easter and later work, but my God, he knows how to use melody like very few else. I'll seek out some clips and add them here when I get a chance.

Some great stuff already in this thread. Nels Cline is a personal favourite, although like Marc Ribot he's one of those guys where his best stuff is some of the most sublime playing I've ever heard, and some of his stuff I don't like much at all.

That little super fast alternate picked section near the start of the solo still gives me goosebumps

Some great stuff on here, love the Keith Urban  and Guthrie's grimacing, but how about this -- the whole thing is a solo, and wow what dynamics! Julian Lage live ...  1:47 for the fireworks ..
