All holes in the body are now drilled, neck is carved and frets are in.

its very close to neck set time.

with all the talk of neck joins I was admiring all the other makers who use full with tenons and it got me rethinking the join.  I didn't want to go as stylised as a Huber, or as fully carved as a Feline.  Instead I rounded off the corner of the body heel and shaped the neck heel to match.  I nice little modern touch that helps define it as "not a Gibson".

i would show you pics but I dropped the base of a bench drill on my big toe and am suffering a bit.  I have steel toe caps I nicked from work.  Must remember to wear them!

well i have time of work and i am not going to let a bloody toe stop me getting this onto finishing!

I need to finish sand, glue in a logo disc and glue the neck into the body.  so close to the finish line!

    That looks great.
What are the little holes on the neck pickup for if it's not got adjustable poles?

Neck is glued in so its time for a test fit

I just grabbed a spare nut, which is far too narrow and throwing string alignment off a bit.

ignore  the pickup angles here a second, they will follow the strings once fitted properly - but this shows the neck angle and bridge break angle.

I love a gold-top as much as the next man, and it's clearly absolutely the right finish for the vibe and concept, but it really does seem like a shame to cover that top up...
Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...

On the other hand, it would be a shame not to ;)

i am looking at it a bit differently.  If I screw up the gold top I have a nice backup plan :)

You could kill two birds with one stone and finish it with a translucent gold.
