You're not going to debate Page though are you? Who might have one of the largest repertoires of quality and timeless songs to his name.
A number of "his" best ones are plagiarised from other artists.

Reminds me of that famous quote :

    It's not a competition.

Only on this forum could we descend into a debate where we put down so many of the all time greats.
Ah, come on - why should they be immune from criticism? My comment about Page's plagiarism is provable fact, and it has always annoyed me that he seldom gets pulled up on it. Why should he get a free ride?
Plagiarism in the blues-rock idiom, say it ain't so!

Anything Page has plagiarised has done nothing to diminish his genius IMO. In fact the stuff he did steal he arranged and rewrote to be even better.

Take Physical Graffitti. No one within a space of 20 years before or after Zep could make a record that folked & rocked that hard.

In fact I am shutting down the Laptop to play for 20 minutes at this late hour.
Because - it is impossible to resist.
    This is it.

More modern players like Greg Koch etc are more likely to make me want to pick up a guitar and play than Clapton is.
WTF? I'm not a Clapton fan but that is ridiculous.

Except Clapton, Page and Beck made great songs.
True up to a point - though arguably not at all in Beck's case.

I've heard  Sunshine of Your Love while driving the other day and was struck by what an awful song it is - and how little I like Jack Bruce's voice.

I think there's a tendency to romanticise some music - which in truth hasn't stood the rest of time particularly well.

    I have to agree with @Jack_ ;

For all my love of grandad rock, that is a Page I've never turned.

    Guitarists are a funny bunch.

I really like Simo, and who doesnt love a fat portion of Koch?

Clearly, they are heavily influenced by the greats of that era.

In fact there are several Wildwood videos 'pon the tube with Greg Koch mercilessly mocking keyboard warriors who diss the playing of clapton/page/Hendrix etc.

    Well worth a watch.

  • I think this thread, and another in Off Topic, indirectly pose large philosophical questions.
Even though, both Simo and Koch may be better guitar players than any of the holy trinity, it is entirely unlikely that they will have anything like the impact. Why is that?
I don't think Page plagiarised any more than others but Led Zep may have been arrogant in their lack of credit to their influences.  That is part of their charm.
