Now sorted, thanks for suggestions - Best (non-heavy) 1x12 for the money?

Any suggestions as to a decent 1x12 and what speaker to go with a vox-ish voiced amp?

Must be about 20" wide.  Other dimensions unimportant. Prolly neodymium for the speaker.  Any suggestions?

  • The Jet City JCA12S+ is pretty damn good, and the speaker is probably nicely voiced to go with something like that. It's also got a parallel output and a speaker-emulated line out (ignore the "20 watt" bit on that page - it's a 100W speaker).

Failing that, I've also got a Montage Intro 1x12", and it's bloody solid. For £100 unloaded, it's a good deal IMO.

I've got a spare V30 I might use in a cab so I was just looking at these

thomann unloaded wide 1x12  (21.5"wide and 12kg) but then for £2 more they do this one loaded with a v30!  thomann v30 cab (18.5" wide and 14kg)

They both look silly cheap to me but it depends if you need something even lighter...

This looks a good possible. What are the dimensions? The site is unclear. I'd be putting wheels on it - is it fairly stable?

  • Neodymium is much more expensive than it used to be.
Are Purple Chilli still going? They were the lightweight cab specialists.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

  • They are. £350 for a 1x12. Nice, but beyond budget.

    They're pretty crap with specs - everything's copy-pasted. The JCA12S+ is 20" x 20" x 12" (same width as the JCA20H head, which they have for £169 - another bargain).

Had a look at these - One is too small, and the other has a "plywood front baffle" - so the rest will be MDF.  I'd like it to be fairly hardwearing, though I don't expect it to be bombproof at  the price I've got in mind.

I've got an Epiphone Jr cab which is a nice ply cab with black tolex and a very nice pine finger-jointed cab too. I have pics of them somewhere on here. I'll put up an ad for them later today. Both of them very nice little cabs but back playing combos so they are surplus to requirement these days. PM me if you want more info. They're both pretty portable.

I'm thinking of heavily modding whatever I get, so I'm hoping it will have room above and below the speaker to take care of the mods I've got in mind.

Casters definitely plus rack holder, plus socketing plus storage.  This will be an UberKab.

edit: the Jr Cab is too small for the Stiletto to sit on, even on its side.

Looks like Jet City or Montage so far.  There's a Montage in a local shop, so I might have a look there.

I've got a neo loaded Matamp 1x12 I'm getting rid of. It's got a Celestion century in it (the discontinued one).
    8ohm, 80w, 102db. £160 firm. Just thought I'd put that out there :)

I got a Montage 1x12 a while ago, figured I couldn;t go wrong at that kind of money, and stuck a V30 in it I got from ZenOvertone. It sounds OK, and it was very cheap and compact, but I'm not sure it's particularly light?

  • All sorted now.  NCD thread started.  Blackstar 1x12.

The Montage wasn't wide enough to sit the Stiletto on.  Very pleased with the Blackstar, though it's 16 ohms and the amp output is 8.

Safe mismatch acc to Mesa Boogie manual, and sounds great.

It's also surprisingly light and the colouring matches nicely.
