  • Officially dropped :-D

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

In response to the OP and from what people have said maybe a possible benefit is to limit the movement of an overly 'lively' guitarist..

I don't favour either featherweight nor super heavy guitars
I like my own guitars in the 7.5-8.5lb weight range

I dread to think what Rick Nielsen's 5 neck Hamer weighs

  • I love a heavy LP Type guitar. I have an old CMI with super distortions in it that is heavy as mammoth balls, both sound and weight wise. I do have a wider strap for it and I definately would struggle if I hung it higher or lower than "junk height". Its perfect for my C tuned stoner rock moments and fills a void my other guitars can't cover.

Any chance we can back on track with the thread and drop the exercise routines.

I asked plus points of heavy guitars.
You can get a great playing, great sounding guitar cheaper :)
